New Mews Houses For Sale from CALA Homes in Aberdeen

July 14 2011

CALA Homes has released six four-bedroom family mews homes at The Campus, its development of new homes in Aberdeen, located on the site of the former Aberdeen College of Education. Priced from £359,995, four of these spacious family homes have already been reserved. CALA will only be building ten of these properties on the site in all, and the rarity of finding new-build family houses in city centre locations such as this one mean that demand is likely to be high for the remaining homes.

Each home has floor space of 1,564 sq ft, making them perfect for a growing family. The Campus is just two miles from the city’s station and around 15 minutes’ drive from Aberdeen Airport. It has already proven popular with those needing convenient access to the University and the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, which are both located nearby.

Opinions Invited on New Aberdeenshire Community

June 29 2011

Local residents are being invited to air their views on a planned £1-billion new-build development in Aberdeenshire.  An exhibition running from Thursday 30 June to Friday 1 July will display the latest designs for Chapelton of Elsick, as well as the results from the recent ecological, agricultural and environmental assessments.

Chapelton of Elsick from Elsick Development Company

More than 4,000 homes are planned for the Chapelton of Elsick development near Newtonhill, Aberdeenshire

With over 4,000 new homes, primary and secondary schools, leisure facilities, pubs, restaurants, a civic centre and retail and business units planned for the development, Chapelton of Elsick is set to be a thriving new community in the Aberdeenshire area.  Providing planning permission is granted from Aberdeenshire Council, the development will be constructed on farmland to the west of Newtonhill, just 10 miles south of Aberdeen.  Developers intend for Chapelton of Elsick to be a sustainable community and four architectural companies local to the area are involved in the planning.

“The exhibition is an opportunity for people to get involved in creating a new, sustainable style of living,” commented Lord Southesk, director of Elsick Development Company Ltd.  ”The master plan is being developed by Andres Duany, the world renowned pioneer of new urbanism, a movement which aims to build walkable, mixed-use towns with a focus on building communities. With 40% green space, a town centre and excellent transport links we are looking to recreate the lifestyle of traditional Scottish towns.”

Families will be drawn to the idea of the new community as the new schools will offer 21st century facilities, which will be open to the community outwith school hours.  Plans are also in place for a large country park nearby and it has been pledged that existing woods and green areas will be retained.  Walking and cycling routes will provide an enjoyable and safe setting for recreational use.

Developers have been keen to involve local residents in the planning of the new community and public consultations have been held to allow them a say in the facilities being created.

“The community has already been involved in every stage of the development of Chapelton,” added Lord Southesk. “Over 300 people attended a 10-day ‘Charrette’ last September, during which they worked with a world-class design team to develop the master plan, and two further exhibitions at Cookney in March and ‘Making it Real’ at Newtonhill earlier this month attracted over 570 visitors to see the developing plans. We collected valuable feedback on our earlier designs at these events, including the need for bungalows and an endorsement of largely traditional house types.”

The exhibition will take place at Cookney Village Hall from 10.00am until 8.00pm on Thursday 30 June and from 9.00am to 4.00pm on Friday 1 July. The designs can also be viewed online by visiting www.chapeltonofelsick.co.uk.

New Properties on the Market in Scotland’s University Cities

June 13 2011

With summer having (supposedly) made an appearance, many of Scotland’s teenagers will be dreaming about heading off to university for the first time or leaving halls of residence to find their own pad.  The thought of finding a quality home to rent can be daunting but, in recent years, a trend has begun to emerge whereby parents decide to find a property to invest in for their child to live in during their university career.

Vision from Stewart Milne Homes

Prices start at £162,995 for a high-specification 2-bed apartment at Stewart Milne Homes' Vision scheme in Aberdeen

Not only could this save money by lowering monthly outgoings paid for rent, but it could also earn parents a bit extra cash by renting out a second bedroom to a flat mate.  In the long term, rising house prices may result in the property being sold on at a profit when the student graduates and moves on.

The benefits of buying new-build homes are many, but perhaps one of the best for a parent is that everything is brand new so there will be no calls home demanding cash for the expensive repair bills that can come with an older property.  There are lots of new-build homes in Scotland‘s university cities that would be ideal for student life and that won’t break the bank of mum and dad.

The Vision development by Stewart Milne Homes is situated near the Mugiemoss area of Aberdeen and offers two apartment styles that are perfect for those starting out.  Both the ‘Pirie’ and the ‘Spence’ have two bedrooms and are priced from £162,995. Each apartment has a kitchen/breakfast room with built-in appliances (so there will be no need to bring washing home at the weekend!), bedrooms with fitted wardrobes, door-entry system and plenty of storage.

CALA Homes‘ Grovewood Hill development in Edinburgh offers a choice of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments priced from £165,000. The apartments are situated in the west of the city and boast a high internal specification that includes Siemens kitchen appliances and bathroom tiling from Porcelanosa. The open-plan design gives a contemporary feel while the separate utility room and fitted wardrobes to the bedrooms offer plenty of storage space.

Gainsborough Court from Mactaggart & Mickel

Buyers have a great choice of property types at Gainsborough Court in Glasgow from Mactaggart & Mickel

With its Kelvindale postcode, Mactaggart & Mickel‘s Gainsborough Court development is conveniently located for students attending any of Glasgow’s three universities. Sixty-two properties priced from £234,495 make up the development, which has a number of homes to suit students including two- and three-bedroom apartments; two-, three- and four-bedroom duplex apartments, and four-bedroom townhouses. The properties all feature roomy lounges, en-suite facilities to the master bedroom and fitted wardrobes in the bedrooms.

Taylor Wimpey‘s Stirling Bridge development has been designed with first time buyers in mind.  Prices start at just £85,000 and the starter homes include a collection of one- and two-bedroom apartments as well as two- and three-bedroom semi-detached homes.

A new development in Dundee is currently on the market through Thornton’s Property Services.  McVicars Lane on the city’s Perth Road is well placed for reaching either of Dundee’s two university campuses and features two- and three-bedroom apartments priced from £174,950 as well as boasting a selection of luxury penthouses.

CALA Homes Plans New Aberdeenshire Development

March 18 2011

CALA Homes has revealed plans to build a brand new development of 24 four- and five-bedroom detached family homes in the village of Foveran, 12 miles north of Aberdeen. Four low-cost homes will also be built at the site, where the house builder’s prestigious Signature Collection will be making its debut in the Aberdeenshire area.

Signature Collection 'Crichton' home from CALA Homes

The 'Crichton' home comes from CALA Homes Signature Collection, providing spacious accommodation and 4/5 bedrooms for a growing family

The homes are designed to combine traditional exterior styling with modern, flexible living spaces specifically aimed at modern family buyers. Many of the home styles available will feature separate formal living and reception rooms as well as an open-plan kitchen and family area, which will provide an informal area for families to spend time together.

Mike Naysmith, regional director at CALA Homes, says: “This development will be extremely appealing to families looking for a home within commuting distance from Aberdeen. Foveran is a picturesque rural village just ten miles north of the city centre and less than five miles to the much-anticipated Donald Trump development.”

Sales and marketing manager for CALA Homes North, Vivian MacLean, adds: “The Signature Homes collection is designed to suit our customers’ lifestyles and evolving needs. We have already received very positive feedback and sales in Liff, near Dundee, where a show home is open.”

The village of Foveran is a lovely place to find a property where you can combine rural and urban living, bringing up the family in a tranquil country setting while remaining close to Aberdeen city centre for work, shopping and leisure. The village is close to Haddo House, a National Trust for Scotland site, and Haddo Country Park for family days out. Further amenities can be found in the nearby town of Ellon, where leisure facilities including a swimming pool and golf course as well as a good selection of shops can be found.
